Program of the Year Award

Recognizing EdD Program Excellence, Innovation, Impact, and Alignment with the CPED Framework

2022 program of the year logo

The Program of the Year (POY) award will be given annually to one or more institutions whose CPED-influenced programs show themselves to be distinctive, innovative, and useful to other CPED members. In other words, this award is not intended to identify a so-called “best” program among CPED members, but rather offer evidence of a proofing site that lifts up and features a program’s approaches and components that might stimulate change and innovation among other CPED-influenced programs.

The POY award identifies doctoral programs that have:

  • Adopted a mission, outcomes, curriculum, and practices that respond to its institutional context
  • Integrated the CPED principles and design concepts through all aspects of its program including, but not limited to, admissions, curriculum, signature pedagogies, assessments, and DiPs
  • Innovative practices that may cause CPED members to grapple with something new or understand something differently
  • Demonstrated evidence of quality, continuous improvement, and meaningful impact on students’ practice and their communities
  • Demonstrated engagement and leadership within the CPED consortium

The POY selection process will include reviewing submissions from active CPED member programs for their consistency with the CPED Framework. The POY Award will provide a means for an institution’s program(s) to achieve distinction while simultaneously allowing the consortium to document and track long-term efforts to maintain the integrity and fidelity of CPED-influenced EdD programs.

Call for 2022 Program of the Year Applications

The Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) is pleased to invite submissions for the 2022 Program of the Year (POY) Award. This award is given to one or more outstanding CPED member institutions whose programming demonstrates excellence, innovation, impact, and alignment with the CPED Framework to promote continuous improvement within varied local contexts.

This year, the award will feature innovation that drives equity and social justice. Following the original intent of CPED to develop “proofing sites” (Imig et al., 2009), this award acknowledges a CPED-influenced program that is exemplary in how future “stewards of practice” are prepared to foster a more just and equitable world, be that in their local communities or across the globe. The winner will be announced at the #CPED22 Convening in October 2022.
