Announcing the 2023 CPED Program of the Year Winner

CPED had an outstanding pool of applicants for the 2023 Program of the Year (POY) award! After lengthy deliberations and a rigorous screening process that involved an 8-member committee, representing just under 10% of CPED’s membership, the CPED Program of the Year (POY) Committee is pleased to announce the University of Pittsburgh as the 2023 Program of the Year. 

The University of Pittsburgh’s (Pitt) EdD is a program encompassing multiple aspects of transformation that deliberately weaves leadership, equity, health, and justice into the coursework and transforms experienced professionals into scholarly practitioners who are equipped to address inequities with improvement science methodologies. Experienced practitioners have the option of selecting one of eight majors to dive deeply into the causes of current inequities and gain a comprehensive view of education and health in society. Students learn from peers and faculty experts and gain the tools needed to manage change in complex systems and work to create a more just future.

A Warm Welcome, and a Sincere Thank You!

Welcome New Board Officers and Directors! 

Dr. Gaëtane Jean-Marie will serve as the incoming Board Chair. Jean-Marie is the Dean of the College of Education at Rowan University. Prior to Rowan, she was formerly the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Northern Iowa, Department Chair and Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Louisville, and held a faculty position at the University of Oklahoma and Florida International University. Jean-Marie has been a member of CPED since its inception in 2007 as a faculty member, department chair, and two-time dean. She will serve as the Chair through June 2025. Stay tuned for more from Chairwoman Jean-Marie. 

In addition, we add to to the Executive Committee Dr. Stanton Wortham of Boston College as Chair-Elect and Dr. Kofi Lomotey of Western Carolina University as the Secretary. They join Dr. Carole Basile of Arizona State who continues as the Board Treasurer and Dr. David Rock of the University of Mississippi who serves as the Immediate Past Chair.

We're excited to announce that the first set of #CPED20 Convening video recordings and learning exchange resources are ready for CPED members to view. Included are the Wednesday, October 14th keynote presentations, several learning exchange sessions, and the 2020 award presentations.

Announcing New Impacting Education Special Issue Series:
100 Years of the EdD

The Impacting Education (IE) journal is an open access, international blind peer-reviewed journal where academics and practitioners can publish scholarly articles that meaningfully contribute to the improved preparation of PK-20 educational leaders through the examination of the development, redesign, and improvement of professional preparation programs as well as their outcomes.

This year marks 100 years since the founding of the first EdD program. To highlight and celebrate this milestone and the progress made toward making the EdD a degree that prepares scholarly practitioners for their work in the field, IE is running a special series of three themed journal issues. Each issue will be led by guest editors with content-expertise and will be published in the spring of 2021.
