CPED Deans & Delegates Councils

Deans Council

The Deans Council is composed of 15 Deans from CPED member institutions. The Deans Council assists the Board with long-range planning and member surveys; establishes annual strategic priorities for CPED; makes recommendation to the Board for the establishment of cooperative relationships; and provides an annual report summarizing the work of the Deans Council. The Deans Council participates in CPED Governance through one elected member to the CPED Board of Directors and three elected members to the Board's Membership Committee.

Dr. Carole Basile, Arizona State University - Deans Council Co-Chair

Carole Basile

Carole G. Basile is the Dean of the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University (ASU).  Prior to joining ASU, Basile was Dean and Professor in the College of Education at the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL).  As Dean at ASU, her work has centered on redesigning the education workforce and changing practices in teacher and leadership preparation. She is currently working with education organizations nationally and internationally to design systems and enable organizational change in these areas. She is recognized for her work in math and science education, teacher education, community engagement, and environmental education and has published numerous articles, books, book chapters, and technical papers.  She is serving as Principal Investigator for multi-million dollar projects funded by the Kern Family Foundation and the Department of Education. Her community work is also extensive, as she has actively partnered with many urban school districts, nonprofit community and social service entities, and organizations focused on business, workforce, and economic development. Dr. Basile has 15 years of business experience in the areas of sales, management, and corporate training and human capital development. 

Dr. David Rock, University of Mississippi - Deans Council Co-Chair

Dr. David Rock is the Dean of the School of Education at the University of Mississippi. He received his B.S. in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University, M.A. in Mathematics Education from the University of Central Florida, and Ed. D. in Teacher Education from the University of Central Florida. Dr. Rock has taught mathematics in Florida and Mississippi at the middle and high school level. He has conducted a multitude of educational workshops and seminars at local, state, and national conferences in which his goal is to increase interest and enthusiasm of the teaching and learning of mathematics. He is the developer of the Internet Math Contests, which encourages students to utilize the Internet to solve challenging mathematics problems from across the globe. David has also co-authored 16 books including Teaching Secondary Mathematics (2024), Scratch Your Brain Where It Itches (2001, 2006, 2008), and Teaching K-6 Mathematics (2003). 

Along with his wife Michelle, a former elementary teacher, he has four children: Carly, Kyle, Katelyn, and Cassidy.

Delegates Council

The Delegates Council is composed of one Delegate per institutional member of CPED. Delegates are elected by the Dean of each institutional member. The Delegates Council adopts policies for the implementation of the CPED Framework; participates in CPED's efforts to review, revise, and update the CPED Framework; makes recommendations to the board for the establishment of cooperative relationships; and provides an annual report summarizing the work of the Delegates Council. The Delegates Council participates in CPED Governance through one elected member to the CPED Board of Directors and three elected members to the Board's Membership Committee.
