Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework built around the idea of proactively identifying and removing barriers to learning in the environment, pedagogical practices, and instructional materials. In this webinar titled “Accessibility Matters: Universal Design and the Professional Practice Doctorate,” we will lead a discussion about accessibility by focusing on the application of UDL in Ed.D. programs with a particular focus on online programs. We will provide a brief overview of UDL and its application to the design, implementation, and evaluation processes of the professional practice doctorate.

Presenters:

Lindsey Chapman

Dr. Lindsey A. Chapman is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Special Education in the School of Special Education, School Psychology, & Early Childhood Studies at the University of Florida. She also serves as the coordinator of the online Ed.D. program in Special Education. Her research and teaching focus on inclusive teacher education including the application of Universal Design for Learning frameworks in multiple contexts. Dr. Chapman is a former elementary school teacher in an inclusive setting, reading coach, and university supervisor.  

Erica D. McCray

Dr. Erica D. McCray is an Associate Professor of Special Education and Director of the School of Special Education, School Psychology, & Early Childhood Studies at the University of Florida. Prior to becoming university faculty, she served as a special educator for students identified with behavioral and learning disabilities in Title I elementary and middle schools.  Dr. McCray has been recognized on multiple levels for her teaching and research, which focus on the influence of diversity on educational practice and policy.

 Amanda Jackson

Amanda Jackson is a doctoral candidate in the Ed.D. in Special Education at the University of Florida, focusing her research on disabled veterans in higher education and disability services. Additionally, Amanda is the Assistant Director for Assistive Technology Services at UF. In this role, Amanda directly supports students with disabilities in higher education through determining reasonable academic accommodations, consulting with faculty to facilitate accommodations, and educating the campus community on Universal Design for Learning principles to increase access.
